Early Learning Toys

Playing builds creativity and fosters cognitive ability. Kids easily get absorbed in any game when they are having fun, as parents know! Incorporating educational games into play is a no brainer.
But it’s tricky business, finding a toy that will last and one that our kids always go back to. Investing in educational toys and actively encouraging our kids’ abilities through learning games builds self-worth. Usually, this feel-good factor will keep kids going back to toys. Here are some ideas that promote learning for all ages.

Jigsaw World Map

Not only is this map useful to help children get a sense of the world, countries and seas. It’s also very aesthetically pleasing. Made using non-toxic paints and sustainable solid wood. This learning toy is aimed at children aged six and up (and parents who want to brush up on their Geography!).

Sensory Play

FuddyDuddy is an Irish company that was started by parents of three children, two of which have autism. They wanted to bring a better range of affordable learning and sensory tools to Ireland. Their Sensory play section has been selected using firsthand knowledge.

Den Kits

These little (also aesthetically pleasing) kits were designed with the idea of getting kids outside to play. Whether that’s a balcony, a garden or a park. The kits don’t need any batteries and use no single plastic.
The non-prescribed construction means there’s no wrong way to assemble them. The Pirate Den Kit has everything children need to create their own outdoor pirate ship. This one is recommended for six-plus.

Shape Sorter

This 26 piece colour and shape sorter can be cleverly factored into kid’s learning. The shapes all come in different shades, and children can begin to understand and differentiate between lighter and darker colours. Ideal for eighteen months plus.
Shape Sorting Chunky Clock
Another shape toy, with the added element of a clock. This can be used to teach kids shapes, numbers, colours. Can be used for a game of What Time is it, Mister Wolf? And all sorts of fun activities, so children won’t even know they are learning! Ideal for two years plus.

Eco-Friendly Watercolours

Made from concentrated plant extracts and food colouring these watercolours might not look like much but become much more vibrant when mixed with water.
The perfect eco-friendly addition to any budding painters collection. The colour blocks can be replaced when they run out. Suitable for children from three years up.

GROWBox

One for kids and adults alike, these Irish based grow boxes come with everything little gardeners need to get started, and a useful guide for adults.
The box includes a notepad to jot down progress, and labels, so you don’t forget what’s what. An ideal lockdown activity. Suitable for any ages from three up.

Fatti Burke’s Children’s Books

These books are beautifully illustrated by Fatti Burke and there’s an impressive collection of educational reads from the story of Constance Markievicz to Irish language books. They can be added to any bookshelf and picked up again and again, so children can become familiar with their Irish history and language from an early age.
